About this Guide

The Gunks

The Shawangunk Mountains — the Gunks — rise above the Hudson Valley in New Paltz, New York. The cliffs are made of hard quartzite conglomerate, swept clean by glaciers and eroded into the horizontal crack systems and roofs that define the area's climbing.

This Guide

This is a totally subjective, continuously evolving, non social media enabled notebook of route beta for some of our favorite climbs in the gunks. Please feel free to use it at your own risk.

Getting There

The Trapps and Near Trapps are accessed from the Mohonk Preserve. A day pass is required. The carriage road trail runs below the cliff and connects all the major buttresses.
